Die EU und Japan kooperieren in der Cluster-Entwicklung. So fand am 2. und 3. Dezember 2008 das erste “EU-Japan Regional Cluster Forum” in Yokohama statt, gemeinsam veranstaltet vom japanischen Wirtschafts- (METI) und Technologie-Ministerium (MEXT) sowie vom EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation und der EU-Delegation in Tokyo.

Mehr als 400 Teilnehmer aus insgesamt 11 EU-Ländern verfolgten in Japan die Symposien und Kontakt-Events. Die EU und Japan verfolgen ganz ähnliche Cluster-Strategien, weshalb eine internationale “Cluster-Kooperation” mehr als sinnvoll erscheint. Somit gehen die Aktivitäten nach dem ersten EU-Japan-Cluster-Forum auch weiter:

As a follow-up to the event, the EU-Japan Industrial Centre will provide on its website, both in English and Japanese, information and web linkages about cluster initiatives in the EU in order to facilitate contact with cluster organisations and initiatives in Europe, such as the Europe INNOVA and the PRO INNO Europe® initiatives. Cluster organisations in the EU will also be able to identify partners in different business sectors in Japan through specific helpdesk services that will be developed by the EU-Japan Industrial Cooperation Centre.
